NCAAF Heisman 2022-23

An early look at the 2022-23 Heisman Trophy race with one player you can bet now...

Jaxson Smith-Njigba - Ohio State

Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson opted out of the Rose Bowl and are heading to the NFL next year, Texas-native Smith-Njigba showed beyond a shred of doubt that he’s ready to step into the WR1 slot for next year and got some folks very excited about this upcoming season for the young star in the making.

He seized the opportunity in the Rose Bowl totaling 15 catches for 347 yards and three touchdowns, Smith-Njigba’s record-breaking display at the Rose Bowl is exactly what makes him the Buckeyes’ best offensive player heading into next season, regardless of position.

JSN’s 347 receiving yards — the most in any bowl game in FBS history — surpassed the entire Utah team’s combined yardage in the game and smashed the school record for receiving yards in a single game, previously held by the late great Terry Glenn who went for 253 yards against Pitt in 1995.

Smith-Njigba’s 15 catches were also a Rose Bowl record. His three touchdowns tied the Rose Bowl record for receiving touchdowns, along with teammate Marvin Harrison Jr., the freshman who also had a huge coming out party on Saturday.

Both Wilson and Olave have been singing this kid's praises since he arrived on campus and have both stated that he was clearly the best WR of the 3 of them and the he was "built different". If his performance in the Rose Bowl was any kind of a preview he could be in for an epic 2022-23 season.

Obviously he will have to beat out his teammate CJ Stroud, who is one of the Heisman favorites, which will be tricky as he is going to be the one throwing JSN the ball. But if the Buckeyes lose a game or two and don't make the playoff it may open the door for JSN to win the award just based on his numbers which we think might be eye popping. We think he could challenge some previous College Football WR records and maybe even surpass 2k yards which would definitely get him into the Heisman conversation. At 60/1 or higher we think Smith-Njigba provides some good value and will be a electric player that will put up eye popping stats and will captivate the country.
