Masters 2022 Early Futures
We started our 2022 Masters Portfolio with these three golfers.
Brooks Koepka - He usually finds his way into our portfolio for just about every major. There's not many things worse than not having a Koepka ticket in a major and watching him just climb his way up the leaderboard. He wasn't healthy last year but he still was competitive in every major. He nearly won the PGA but ultimately fell short to Phil. If he can do that with health concerns, at times he could barely bend down to grab his ball, then with some time off to recover he should come back as strong as ever next year. Really anything over 15/1 is pretty good value on Koepka, but he is listed at multiple books at 18/1 or even 19/1. We took him at 18/1 but if we see it get up to 20/1 we'll take some more. He will be in contention in March and you'll be glad you have him in pocket. Also if he gets off to a good start next year that number will drop, so it makes sense to grab some now.
Cameron Smith - This is a great young golfer who proved he has what it takes to compete in and win majors. He also seems to be a great fit for Augusta, he's a tremendous putter and has fantastic touch around the greens. He can also really turn it on with his ball striking as well. He finished T2 at Augusta in 2020 and T10 last year. He ranked first in Par 5 scoring average last year, and obviously it's very important to score on the par 5's at Augusta. His results the last two years speak for themselves and he also proved he could win last year at the Zurich Classic. He really is a rising star and Circa has him at 47/1 which is the best around, we doubt this number will last too long once the golf season fully gets under way.
Harris English - It took awhile for the 32 year old to make his way to Augusta, he's only played there three times. He's record is; 2014 CUT 2016 T42 2021 T21 so he's improved every time he's played there. He attended Georgia University so he is familiar with the area and has played the course many times. He won multiple times last year and was one of the hottest golfers on tour multiple times throughout the year. He was also 5th in Par 5 scoring last year and is great around the greens. He has a smooth swing and is also a very good putter. At 100/1 we thought he was a great value play and we expect him to pick up where he left off last year and start out strong so grabbing the number now made sense.
