150th Open Championship at St. Andrews

The final major of the year is coming up next and we have a few players that we like at their current odds.

Cameron Smith was a very hot name going into the Masters but he's really cooled off as of late. Which is perfect for betting purposes, Westgate has him listed at 30/1 currently for the Open Championship which is much longer than it's been for quite some time. We took a piece of him at 50/1 for the Open earlier on in the year before the Masters but we'll go back to him at 30/1 and add some more. This course has drawn quite a few comparisons to Augusta, which is course that Smith has had a lot of success on and if it wasn't for Scottie Scheffler he easily could have a green jacket in his closet. Short game is very important on this course and Smith ranks 23rd in SG Around the Green. He is also an elite putter and ranks 11th in total putting, 1st in putting average, and 7th in 3 putt avoidance which will all come in handy on these large and tricky greens.

Approach is also extremely important on this track and Smith ranks 3rd on tour in SG Approach and 2nd in SG Approach from 50-125 yards which we expect to see a lot of on this course which features a number of shorter holes. He is also 2nd on tour in birdie or better % and 1st on tour in birdie average, we think this will be a low scoring affair so you will need to make a good number of birdies. He can sometimes struggle off the tee which won't be as big of a problem on this course as there really aren't any trees and with a number of the holes being shorter it gives him a lot of different options off the tee. He hasn't been great since the Masters but he did finish T13 at the PGA and the following week at the Memorial, we think this is a great time to buy on a little bit of a dip on one of the best young players in the game.

Will Zalatoris is the 2nd player that we added at 40/1, he continues to knock on the door at these majors and nearly had one at Southern Hills. We had him at 60/1 there and we're gonna go back to him again, hopefully he waits till the Open to break through and doesn't get it at the US Open but we think St. Andrews is a better set up for him. He has the total package and should win one soon, he's been so close and continues to play tremendous golf. The stats speak for themselves with Willy Z; 1st in SG APR, 6th SG OTT, 2nd in SG TTG, and 158th SG Putting. Obviously it's safe to say that putting is his weak point, but everywhere else he is not only good he is truly elite. Looking back at last year's champion Collin Morikawa who also has had his struggles with the putter and seems to be very comfortable on the the slower greens that usually accompany the Open Championship. This seems to allow players to hit their putts a little firmer and we feel like it helps players who sometimes struggle with the putter, so if Zalatoris can continue with his tee to green excellence and make a few putts he could easily have his first victory come at the Old Course. 40/1 will not be around much longer if he continues to play at this level, especially if he puts together another good showing at the US Open.

The last player that we added was Robert MacIntyre who will be playing a home game of sorts in his home country of Scotland. He has played very well in his two appearances at the Masters T21 this year and T12 last year , he also finished T8 in the Open Championship last year on a similar course. He plays a lot of the Euro tour so we don't see him as much as some other golfers but he is a young talented golfer who should have sustained success on the PGA tour. He can hit the ball a long ways, he has a strong short game, and he can play well in windy conditions which we might very well see on the Old Course. Circa has 125/1 on him which is pretty far off from a lot of other shops out there where he is listed between 66-80/1 in most shops.
